How to Achieve Perfect Lighting for Your Bathroom

Sep 1st 2018

Each family member uses the bathroom each day so it is essential for a good home to have a relaxing and functional bathroom.

Recommended Light Bulb

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) Bulb is the best choice. The higher price compared to incandescent bulbs and CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lights) is well worth it especially since LEDs are actually cheaper in the long run. LEDs use 75% to 90% less energy and can last 10 to 20 times longer than incandescents. LEDs are also mercury-free making them easy to dispose unlike CFLs. LEDs are also impervious to humidity and put out minimal amount of heat. We recommend USGL’sG25 Vanity Globe Light Bulb.

Recommended Color Temperature (Kelvin)

The right color temperature is essential in making the bathroom feel like a the ideal place to pamper yourself, put on your makeup, and be ready for the day ahead. We recommend Cool/Bright White (3500K – 4100K) and Daylight (5000K-6500K). The higher a light bulb’s Kelvin temperature is, the whiter the light it emits will be. Also remember that Lumens is the primary determinant of a light bulb’s brightness and not its temperature or wattage.

Recommended Color Rendering Index (CRI)

The CRI of a light bulb is the measurement of its ability to illuminate or what range of colors it can make visible to the naked eye. CRI is measured within a scale of 0-100 with 100 having equal luminescence to natural daylight. To be able to see yourself clearly when washing up, doing your hair, applying your makeup etc., a CRI of 80-100 is highly advised.

Intelligent Use of Mirrors

Each mirror you add to the bathroom improves the way light is distributed throughout the room. Aside from the obvious mirror above the sink, also have a length mirror to help you check if you’re ready to go. Then place a mirror opposite of the length mirror to provide you a clear view of the back of your head which is quite useful when fixing your hair.

Save Energy Multiple Switches

You can conserve electricity by having each bulb in the bathroom have its own switch. This way, you can turn on just the light bulbs you need.

Shape of the Bulb

This is mainly for aesthetics. G25 shaped bulbs are recommended for bathroom lighting because of their decorative appearance. They can enhance the look of the room and add character to it.
