Ideal Lighting for Your Interior Design
Lighting should always be a major consideration when it comes to interior design. Good lighting elevates the aesthetics of a room and plays a big part in the living space’s mood and ambiance. Another benefit of proper lighting is that it adds safety, comfort, and convenience. Lighting can add character to a room and serve as the catalyst for the marriage of function and style. The absence of proper lighting will prevent you from getting a full experience out of your interior architecture. Simply put, lighting has the potential to enhance everything in a room.
Lighting has great influence on the mood of people occupying a living space. Good lighting can lift the spirit up by simply making the room look more hopeful and colorful. You can hire the services of an interior designer to advise you on which mood you should strive for with each room of your home. For example, a relaxing atmosphere is ideal for the bathroom while a motivating atmosphere is better suited for a work area.
Ways of Implementing Lighting
1. Ambient Lighting
Ambient or general purpose lighting illuminates the room and enhances its glow. Aside from typical light bulbs, you can also use lanterns and wall sconces. You can also utilize dimmer switches to allow you to manipulate and ambiance of the room.
2. Accent lighting
Accent or decorative lighting highlights objects in the room such as a portrait, painting, or sculpture that you want to make more prominent. Spotlights and table lamps are often used for this purpose. Just don’t overdo it. Highlighting only one or two items per room is advised.
3. Task Lighting
Task or performance lighting makes it easier for you to perform certain tasks and is often used on work or study areas. The dinner table and kitchen sink are other areas usually in need of task lighting.Recessed lighting is the most preferred form of task lighting nowadays as it is easy to blend into the rest of the interior design.
LED Lighting is Recommended
LED (Light Emitting Diode) is at the forefront of lighting technology. It is in the process of phasing out the extremely energy inefficient incandescent bulb and CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp). The efficiency of LED is unparalleled as it can consume up to 90% less electricity than an incandescent. It also often has a lifespan that can last over a decade.
