1. LEDs convert almost 100% of the electricity being fed to them into light while incandescent bulbs convert only 9-10%. LEDs waste almost no energy which is why they are so efficient.

2. LED light is better at stopping the growth of bacteria compared to fluorescent or halogen light. A growing number of eateries and other stores that display fresh food are switching to LED lighting after several studies have determined that LED light significantly hampers the breeding of bacteria and other unwanted microorganisms.

3. The United States would have saved an estimated $18 billion in energy costs last year if just half of all incandescent Christmas lights in the nation were replaced by LEDs. This is the primary reason why the Federal Government is intensifying its information drive on the advantages of LEDs.

4. LED light is less attractive to bugs. Insects like to flock around incandescent bulbs because these bulbs produce an abundant amount of ultraviolet and infrared radiation that, for lack of a better word, makes most insects high. LEDs have almost zero radiation.

5. LEDs give off minimal amounts of heat with a core temperature of 135-140 degrees Fahrenheit. Touching an LED bulb will just feel warm to the hand. Incandescent bulbs, on the other hand, with their core temperature of 375 to 700 degrees Fahrenheit leave a sting in your hand if you touch them while lit.

6. LEDs are classified as green not just because of their energy efficiency but also because 95% of an LED bulb’s components are recyclable. And unlike CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps), LEDs do not contain mercury.

7. LEDs are extremely durable compared to other sources of lighting. They can resist powerful external shock and are unaffected by humidity.

8. The Federal Government expects that a total ban on incandescent bulbs will be implemented by 2020. The Government also expects widespread adoption of LEDs by 2040. If this expectation is met, the Government would save around $270 billion and eliminate the need to construct 40 additional power plants.
